Spontaneous Adventure

Yesterday, my roommate Robert and I woke up feeling slightly restless about just sitting around the apartment all day. We talked for a few minutes, did some research, then jumped into the car and drove 2 hours to San Marcos, specifically Spencer's Canoes and Kayaks. We rented a kayak and rowed a 6 mile run on the San Marcos river. It was gorgeous; very green, lots of wildlife, clean water...

About 2 miles into the run, I hear Robert screaming and freaking out. I look behind me to see Robert hanging from a tree branch with his boat 15 feet in front of him, and his RENTAL paddle floating down the river...

I rowed as fast as I could and finally caught up with Robert's fast moving runaway paddle. I managed to row to the side of the river and grab onto a rotting branch of a tree waiting for Robert to find his way back into his kayak and hand-paddle his way over to me to get his paddle. When Robert is about 40 yards away, the branch I'm resting on snaps, flipping my kayak completely upside down.... not cool. I had to find a way back into the boat and fight the current to try and get both of our paddles back. Luckily it worked out. We paddled the rest of the four miles with few problems. Needless to say, Robert and I definitely plan on going back to Spencer's Canoes and Kayaks.

Also needless to say, I'm not doing anything today. I'm sleeping, I'm laying around, and I'm gonna eat shells and cheese if I get motivated enough to.... well.... boil water. We'll have to see how that last one goes.

Now, it's time to go get started on that long to-do list of things I listed earlier. Such an inconvenience....

  1. I am jealous that you went kayaking. I bought shoes yesterday, not saved my friend from death. I watched television.

I'm rather envious. I'm sure I shall talk to you later. Too bad you left Josh out of the fun.
